Presbyterians have always placed an emphasis on the role of the Christian community to participate in God’s reign by living out the Kingdom Jesus’ life modeled for us. Below are a variety of ways our congregation seeks to live into the new heaven and the new earth.
SouperBowl of Caring
On Super Bowl Sunday our children collect a special offering that goes to support hunger relief in our community.
We support Appalachian Outreach through an annual hospitality ministry of feeding home repair volunteers who visit our area. We also participate in special offerings and collections for school supplies, coats, and necessary food items throughout the year. Many individual members volunteer time with the organization as well.
Reformed University Fellowship
Twice a week during the school year we host the Reformed University Fellowship of Carson-Newman University. Students gather on Monday evenings for worship and on Thursday evenings for Bible study.
Provides a local shelter in Jefferson County to the victims of domestic violence and abuse. Many additional services including violence prevention education programs in our schools are provided as well. We support this organization through financial contributions and regular updates from the staff.
Jefferson Rural Clinic
We actively support the Jefferson Rural Clinic, a local medical and dental health clinic for the uninsured. We provide volunteers as well as a monthly monitary donation toward clinic expenses.
Our congregation supports Samaritan House family homeless shelter by hosting a Christmas dinner each year to the families and staff.
Christmas in Jefferson County
Every December we collect 1,000 boxes of macaroni and cheese for Christmas baskets to be distributed to families in our community through this annual Chamber of Commerce event.
Church Sponsored Missions
On the last Sunday of each month, our children are invited to assist in taking up special offering designated for specific feeding programs in our community.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Women of the church gather to ‘Sit and Knit’ once a month to make prayer shawls for people going through difficult times. These shawls are shared within and outside of our church family to assure people that they are being remembered in prayer.
Whenever a child or grandchild is born into a family in the congregation, we collect diapers for local organizations that help families in need. This ministry reminds us that we not only celebrate the new life in our family of faith but that we extend that same love to all people as children of God.
Pastor’s Discretionary Fund
Enables our Pastor to respond to urgent requests for help as they arise. Most of these funds are used for emergency utility assistance.
