A Vision For Children Little child, for you Jesus Christ came into the world; for you he lived and showed God’s love; for you he suffered the darkness of death and cried at the last, ‘It is accomplished;’ for you he triumphed over death and rose in newness of life; for you he ascended to reign at God’s right hand. All this he did for you, although you do not know it yet. And so the scripture is fulfilled, ‘We love because God first loved us.’
-from the charge to the newly baptized in the baptism liturgy
It is the great joy and challenge as the family of faith to raise our children with the knowledge and love of God, instilling in them a sense of God’s presence so that they may come to profess their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. In addition to relationships that form over a lifetime of discipleship, we carry out the following activities to help us live out the promises we make at baptism:
Sunday School (Sunday breakfast 9:30 – 9:45, Class 9:45 – 10:30)
Nursery (Two to Four year olds)
Children grow in God as they begin their faith formation through the basic stories of scripture. Songs and crafts accompany each lesson as we begin the lifelong journey of following Jesus.
Pre-K through First Grade
This class of preschoolers, taught by dedicated teachers, is exploring God’s word through the Grow, Proclaim, Serve Curriculum. Through the stories of scripture, the children seek to learn the basics of the biblical stories, so that they might enter into the depths of their hearts, forming the way our young people see the world and God’s hand at work in it.
Second to Fifth Grades
During this school year, students are meeting the first characters of our faith, the families of Genesis. Children will discover how God’s covenant extends to them as they meet Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Rachel and more!
Children and Youth Choir: rehearses from 9:45 – 10:00 during Sunday school for first to fifth grades and sings on the last Sunday of each month during the school year
Children and Youth Handbell Choir: rehearses from 9:00 to 9:30 on Sundays. Children in second grade and older are welcome to participate. The bell choir rehearses through the school year.
Acolytes: Throughout the year children serve as worship leaders, bringing in the light of Christ into worship and carrying that light out into the world at the conclusion of worship.
Five-Cents-A-Meal Ushers: On the last Sunday each month we collect a special offering for local food ministries, and our children serve as ushers, filling pots with coins and cash from the congregation.
Welcome to Worship: In nurturing faith, all children in first grade and older remain in worship through our entire service. At the beginning of each school year, first graders are presented with their own Bible and worship bag in a special ceremony during the service to help welcome them into the life of the congregation.
Nursery: Every Sunday a nursery is provided for children who are infants through kindergarten. Our church employs a nursery worker to provide a consistently familiar face to the children, and church volunteers sign up to assist the nursery worker as well.
