Employment Opportunity: Music Director

First Presbyterian Church, Jefferson City, TN seeks to fill the position of Music Director. This position is part-time, typically requiring 15-20 hours/week fall, winter, spring and 10-15 hours/week summer. 

It is available as of August 1, 2021. 

Job Description

Working with the Pastor and Worship Committee, the Music Director is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the music program of the church. This person will attend weekly staff meetings and monthly committee meetings to plan music for services in accordance with the Presbyterian (PCUSA) theology of worship. 

Job responsibilities include directing the sanctuary choir as well as the adult and youth handbell choirs (including rehearsal preparation and performance); supervising children’s music education and performance; providing appropriate service music for the worship service; providing accompaniment for all worship music (including hymns, choir anthems, and soloists); and providing music for special services as requested.


Qualifications include skills in organ and piano, experience in choral conducting, ability to conduct instrumentalists, familiarity with the Presbyterian Church (preferred), an engaging personality with exceptional interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, and ability to communicate effectively.
